“Charly’s Colleagues” – Willi Weihrich

Our clients are mainly in touch with the speedikon group of companies through individual consultants, but who are the various other members of our team who are involved in our projects and keep the business running? In our series “Charly’s Colleagues”, you’ll have the chance to meet our other team members every few weeks.

Willi Weihrich talks about his training as an IT specialist for app development, his current projects and a few tips on what you can do in the Bergstrasse region.

Willi, you have been training as an IT specialist for app development with us since August 2023. Tell us a bit about yourself and why you chose a job in CAFM (Computer-Aided Facility Management) and DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management).

I am 24 years old and started my apprenticeship as an IT specialist for system integration in 2022. During my first year, I was dissatisfied with the training conditions, especially the two-hour commute to the company. So, I decided to find another company that suited me better.

When I found out that speedikon was looking for employees, I applied and quickly was accepted to continue my apprenticeship there, including a change in training from system integrator to application developer; in other words, I changed from the hardware part to the software part.

Until I started my training, I only had a connection to CAFM through my mother, who was a qualified draughtswoman, and my grandfather, who was an architect.

What cool projects or tasks have you done since you started working with us? Were there any moments that particularly stood out?

I’ve been given a lot of cool projects since working here.

At the start, my biggest challenge was to develop an understanding of our software. I can now work on many of the tasks independently. The coolest thing for me, however, is the problem-solving aspect of it all. There are many ways and solutions to achieve a certain goal – I enjoy dealing with them and deciding which approach makes the most sense. It’s also a great feeling to carry out configurations, to be able to see the final results directly and to receive positive feedback from the customer after successful implementation.

Can you tell us a bit about your team and the office culture here? How did you settle into the team?

I felt really at home from day one. All my colleagues immediately communicated their willingness to support me in everything and that they were always available to answer questions. That immediately gave me the feeling that I would be very well received here. This feeling was not just a snapshot of the office culture, but an important part of the fun I have at work and with my colleagues. Even when there’s a lot to do, you still manage to laugh every day. And even though I’m actually a late riser, my work motivates me to get up every morning full of energy.

Our company headquarters are located in Bensheim, Germany. How do you spend your free time here and what tips do you have for others who are doing their training in the Bergstrasse region?

Being born in Bensheim, I have already tried many things in my life here and can gladly make a few recommendations.

My great passion is playing table tennis. I’ve been playing at the table tennis club of Auerbach since the third grade, so for 15 years now. I was also a youth coach and youth manager for a long time. I am also part of the SUNDAZE OPENAIR festival that has been taking place in Bensheim for 2 years. There, I’m mainly responsible for catering, coordinating the helpers and moderating the event. Our hiking routes along the Bergstrasse region are also particularly beautiful, with the Kirchberghäuschen being the absolute highlight of course.
