Digital representations of real objects, so-called “digital twins”, can provide significant added value for the operation and management of buildings and facilities. Since such twins can only show their added value if they not only provide visuality but are also linked to dynamic data, we have combined our C platform with the software of our partner company Framence GmbH.
Framence GmbH provides a solution that can be used to create photorealistic digital twins from simple panoramic images. This groundbreaking technology makes creating and updating these photorealistic digital twins very quick, extremely easy as well as highly cost-effective. Keeping them up to date throughout the life cycle of an object becomes, thus, possible without any problems.
By positioning the photos and panoramic images in a 3D coordinate system, measurements can be taken within the images, information can be located and 3D points such as Points of Information can be set. In this way, a 3D model is created but without the effort that is needed when actually creating a 3D model. Should models already exist, they can of course be integrated into the FRAMENCE platform and linked to the photos. The data they contain is transferred to FRAMENCE. The use of photos in combination with clever IT and AI reduces the costs for creating the digital twin by up to 90%. This also makes the continuous maintenance and updating economically feasible for the first time.
This expansion of factual data that is available on the C platform to include precise, up-to-date image information from the inventory makes it possible to accelerate and optimize many existing workflows and processes. For example, a technician can get an impression of the actual situation on-site before performing a maintenance task. This prevents unexpected surprises that would otherwise result in extra work.
In addition, the onboarding of new employees is made easy by precisely locating important equipment in the photorealistic twin. The often time-consuming search during an initial inspection can be avoided by a quick glance at the photorealistic digital twin. In the area of life cycle management, an assessment regarding the current condition of the asset that was previously carried out purely alphanumerically can be precisely supported by image information. Since the specialists can carry out the assessment in the photorealistic twin and no longer have to be on-site, the effort required in this regard can be reduced.
This is, of course, only a small outline of the possibilities of how photorealistic digital twins can supplement and further optimize available data and processes. Not only information from the C platform , but also further information from third-party systems can be linked, thanks to a wide range of interfaces.
